Crack’d Kitchen & Coffee recently opened its doors in Andover, MA. It’s a scratch kitchen using farm-fresh eggs from Maine and other local and high quality ingredients. Breakfast is served ALL day with the lunch and dinner menus available after 10:30am. The best part? Crack’d is changing the game
for gluten-free dining in Andover and surrounding towns.
For starters, they’ve got a dedicated GF menu with far more than a few select items from the regular offerings. Nearly EVERYTHING on the regular menu can be ordered gluten free. But the question remained; it safe from cross contamination?
I spoke to owner Danny Azzarello to find out more about their gluten-free food prep practices. Danny is the former Director of Culinary Operations at Burtons Grill where he developed their rigorous gluten-free protocols. Inspired by a young family member with celiac disease, Danny set out to make sure that people with celiac and gluten sensitivity could eat out safely and deliciously. . Bottom line – he gets it. Danny built his open concept kitchen to accommodate the most sensitive diners.
He’s got two dedicated griddles; one for for GF buns and sandwich rolls, and another for pancakes, eggs, etc. The staff is well-trained and color-coded cutting boards and knives are used for gluten free. To further alleviate the chance of cross contamination, Crack’d ONLY serves GF pancakes using King Arthur GF flour, (which I personally use and trust), and you won’t find croutons on the Greens & Grains menu. He feels it’s just not worth the risk. When ordering, be sure to inform your server about your dietary needs.
So the next time you’re hungry in the Andover, MA area, no matter what time of day it is, head over to Crack’d. You’ll be glad you did!
