Al Dente: Gluten Free in Little Italy
It’s such a wonderment that Italy is one of the top safe European countries for celiac travelers. So why should Little Italy in Boston be any different?
We popped into Al Dente for a quick dinner about a month ago, and wow. Pasta is pretty much their only GF starch option, but we didn’t care and you won’t either. Appetizer choices were as expected but excellent, including salads and soups and other safe options. And then there’s the pasta; anyway you want it. Â We ordered the gnocchi primavera style, minus the cheese, and it was perfect. Perfectly cooked, perfectly presented, perfectly portioned and perfectly safe. The kitchen is not dedicated gluten free, but these guys seem to really know what they’re doing, and are willing to accommodate. And for that we are so grateful.
The dining room is small, fills up super fast, and can get loud when it’s at capacity, which is most of the time. But when you’re eating incredible old fashioned Italian food, it adds to the experience – almost feels like you’re dining with the whole family.  😉
They don’t have a website, so be sure to make a reservation. And listen to the guy who welcomes you at the door – he’s efficient, fast, and knows exactly what he’s doing.
There are plenty of safe restaurants in Little Italy – stay tuned for our Little Italy dining guide and mangia!
*Al Dente is super careful in the kitchen but is not a dedicated gluten-free facility. Always use your own judgement when eating out.
