Newton’s New Gluten-Free Gem: Annie May’s Sweet Cafe
If you came to our Greater Boston Expo, you got to meet (and sample!) Annie May’s Sweet Cafe, the region’s newest allergen-friendly bakery. Located in the Newtonville section of Newton, MA, this is the second location for owner Annie May. Her first location is in Louisville, KY. Â For Annie, baking was just a hobby when she switched to a gluten-free diet ten years ago. And at that time, the choices for gluten free were quite limited, so she started baking. With the encouragement of family, Anne started selling her gluten-free baked good online, and soon after opened her first location.
Allergic folks take note – the bakery is completely free of gluten, wheat, eggs, dairy, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, fish, and sesame. They do use coconut, which is considered a tree nut, but unless you’re allergic to coconut, this place is safe. They try to make items that you won’t find anywhere else like candy bars, tarts and whatever incredible treats Annie dreams up. They also do wedding cakes, special orders, bakery subscriptions, and more.
We could not be more excited to welcome another allergen-free bakery to the region. The number of adults and kids being diagnosed with celiac disease and food allergies is rising so fast, and, just like Annie May says, no one should have to miss out!
