Catch a Healthy Habit
If you’re curious about eating raw, Catch a Healthy Habit in Fairfield is the perfect to place to give it a go. If you eat raw and you’re already a Catch a Healthy Habit fan, then you’re very smart!
Owners Lisa Storch and Glen Collelo opened their 100% raw, gluten-free and vegan cafe in 2009. The menu contains all sorts of traditional favorites, like lasagna, bagels, crepes, and spaghetti and meatballs. But, when you read the fine print, you see that all of these items contain raw and vegan substitutes for wheat, meat, and cheese. In fact, the kitchen doesn’t even have an oven! The only heat they use is a crockpot for their delicious daily soups. They also offer an extensive smoothie menu, including fun flavors like Superfood Hero, Minty Chip, and Chocolate Caramel Pecan Pie, using whole ingredients with no added sugars, of course. If you feel like a juice, they make ’em fresh, and if you’re not in the mood for one from their list, like the Pucker Up or the Popeye, you can create your own.
For dessert, the options are seemingly endless. Macaroons, oatmeal cookies, brownie bites and caramel bars are just a few of them. Our personal favorite was the passion fruit pudding, which is made nut-free using Irish moss as a thickener. We’re still not sure what Irish moss is, but this pudding was so delicious, we’re not sure we care!
Lisa and Glen also host healthy living and earth-friendly talks, movies, and educational programs at the cafe, and their staff is a delight. You don’t have to be committed to a raw diet to visit this cafe and appreciate their passion and dedication to providing authentic and wholesome nutrition in an ever-processed world. And, who knows, maybe it’ll become a habit!
