Colony Grill

We had been waiting a long time to try the pizza at Colony Grill, and it was so worth it. With four locations in Fairfield County, they are one lucky gluten-free pizza-eating part of Connecticut!  When you arrive on Colony’s website, the first words you see are “Home of the Original Hot Oil Bar Pie.”  We could probably just end our review right there, but we won’t.

The first thing you need to know is that at Colony Grill, there are no grills. In fact, their hot oil pies were so popular early on that they started selling just pizza and drinks, and that’s how it remains today. In fact, there isn’t even a menu. The list of available pizzas is on the wall and at your table when you arrive. For gluten-free customers they use Still Riding Pizza crusts (bonus!), and they can ensure that your pizza is prepared, baked and sliced safely. No place is perfect, but they’ve got quite a big celiac following, so they must be doing something right. Our favorite thing about Colony, though, is the salad pizza. They throw a huge salad (tossed in a delicious vinaigrette) right on top of a perfectly baked crust with sauce and cheese, or just sauce, or just cheese but no sauce – any way you want it. And, according to our sever, we are definitely not the only ones to enjoy a salad on top off marinara sauce.

So if you’re gluten free and you live in Fairfield County, you’re very lucky. If you’re passing through Fairfield County and in the mood for a safe, fun, and delicious pizza, we just found it for you. And if you’re none of the above, you are absolutely due for a day trip. You can thank us later!
