Best Gluten-Free Pizza in Connecticut? Here Are Our Favorites!
Everyone loves pizza, but when you’re celiac or gluten sensitive, being a pizza lover can be risky. There aren’t many places to get a celiac-safe pie in Connecticut, so we’ve compiled a list of our personal favorites, including details about their kitchen practices. But remember – we cannot guarantee the safety of any establishment, so always use your own judgement when eating out. We’re just trying to make it easier and a whole lot more fun!
1. Flatbread Company
110 Albany Tpke. 500 Evergreen Way
Canton, CT 06019 South Windsor, CT 06074
(860) 693-3314 (860) 648-1111
Flatbread makes our all-time favorite GF pizza using crust from New Hampshire-based Peace of Mind Baking Company. They understand how to keep your pizza safe, and they have vegan options as well. Our favorite thing about Flatbread’s pizza is the deliciously authentic crispness of the crust, compliments of their wood-fired oven. And they also always have a GF dessert on hand from our friends at GF Territory!

2. Engine No. 6 Pizza Company
195 W. Thames St.
Norwich, CT 06360
(860) 887-3887
Engine No.6 Pizza Co. in Norwich, located in an old firehouse, quietly cranks out amazing pizza, calzones, breadsticks, and more, using their homemade GF dough. And check out these details that we took directly from their site:
- We have a special mixer dedicated to making gluten-free dough, and it’s always covered when not in use.
- We never make a gluten-free batch of dough at the same time we’re doing our regular pizza production.
- We always bake the crusts on special screens, which are dedicated for gluten free ONLY.
- We always cut our gluten-free pizzas on a clean, flour free surface with a pizza wheel that we never use on our regular pizzas.
- We hand roll our gluten-free dough on a clean, stainless steel surface, which never has anything but rice flour on it.
- The rolling pin is used only for gluten-free dough. Same with the breadsticks and calzones.
- Even our flour bags are color coded to prevent a mix-up of gluten free with regular wheat flour.
We’ve been to Engine No. 6, and and can vouch for the safety and deliciousness of their entire GF menu. In fact, celiac folks from near and far stop in to purchase their pizza dough in bulk – now go try them yourself and tell them we sent you! *Celiac friendly
3.Lisa’s Luna Pizza

When your pizza place is owned by someone who has celiac disease, it just feels good. That’s the case with Lisa’s Luna Pizza, where they take great care to ensure that your meal is safe. Add in the fact that their pizza is just so incredibly good AND they have huge, crusty GF grinder rolls, you really can’t lose. *Celiac friendly
4. Colony Grill
Locations in Stamford, Norwalk, Fairfield & Milford
We love Colony Grill for so many reasons. First, they’ve been around since 1935 and have essentially become part of the fabric of Fairfield County pizza culture. Second, they don’t hand out menus; you read their offerings off the wall or on a card at your table. Third, they make the prettiest, most delicious and safe GF salad pizzas in the state. But don’t take our word for it. Try one and we guarantee you’ll go back for more. Colony takes great care to ensure that your pizza is safe, using separate pans, utensils and prep areas and has a loyal celiac clientele. *Celiac friendly
5. People’s Choice
Locations in Vernon, Bristol, Manchester, Simsbury, New Britain, Unionville, and East Hartford
We know what you’re thinking. How could a delivery place like People’s Choice even place in our top ten list? Well, give their GF pizza a try and then you’ll understand. They source their crust from a California distributor, and it’s just plain delicious; crispy and flavorful with plenty of GF toppings to choose from. And, they just opened Iron Horse Pub, right next door to their takeout pizza spot in Simsbury. So now you can have your GF pizza and eat it IN! *Not celiac friendly
6. Pizzetta
7 Water St.
Mystic, CT 06355
(860)536-4443
When we saw the size of the GF menu at Pizzetta, an incredible feeling of “normal” washed over us. It was full of amazIng GF and GF/vegan offerings, and when we asked about their kitchen prep practices, the server wasn’t even phased. Add in vegan cheese options and you’ve got yourself one delicious and fun coastal pizza spot!

7. Pizzeria Uno’s
Springfield MA , Holyoke MA
We know, we know – there aren’t any Pizzeria Uno’s in Connecticut. But their crust is so incredibly good, and Springfield, MA is so close, we just had to include it. It’s got chew and crunch, and you may even question whether it’s gluten free. They carry the GF crust at all of their locations, and maybe – just maybe they’ll see this and think about giving CT a location or two!

8. Harry’s Bishop’s Corner
732 N. Main St.
West Hartford, CT 06117
(860) 236-0400
Harry’s Bishop’s Corner was making celiac-safe GF pizza before it was cool and it’s always been one of our all-time faves. Using a separate prep area, utensils and pans, these guys really know what they’re doing. They use Still Riding Crust, which is one of the best, and they even have vegan cheese now, too. The best part? They make the best non-GF pizza around, so everyone in your party will be absolutely satisfied – guaranteed!

9. Tivoli Pizza and Trattoria
79 Newtown Rd.
Danbury, CT 06810

Tucked away in an unassuming strip mall, Tivoli has a regular menu, a Brazilian menu, and a GF menu. For pizza crust they use their homemade GF pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), which is made from maca root flour and cheese. It’s definitely not dairy-free, but this pizza crust is heavenly.

10. Modern Apizza
874 State St.
New Haven, CT 06511

We couldn’t make a list of our top ten favorite pizzas in Connecticut without New Haven represented. And that was easy – Modern Apizza is the place. They’ve somehow managed to make their GF pizza taste every bit as good as their regular pizza, which is quite a feat. And, like all the great New Haven pizza joints, It’s always crowded, parking is tough, but the pizza makes it all worth it.
