What is it about a cozy little place that only serves breakfast and lunch? We’re not sure, but EggsUp in Portland definitely
has it. Sitting all by itself on a stretch of road, just across the river from Middletown, it’s hard to miss, because they’ve got a cute elephant in overalls in front, pointing right at it. (kid alert)
The owner and two of her kids have celiac disease, so these guys really know what they’re doing. They’ve got an entire gluten-free and celiac-friendly breakfast menu, including old standbys like omelettes with gluten-free toast and egg sandwiches, all the way up to giant, fluffy gluten-free pancakes with lots of mix-in choices and french toast. But that’s not all. They always have an assortment of celiac-friendly homemade gluten-free muffins that rival any local bakery. They use a separate part of the grill to prepare their gluten-free offerings, they have a dedicated GF toaster, and they just seem to get it. And, in a world where it seems that so many people don’t get it, Eggs Up is a pretty special place!
