Flatbread Company
If you’re in the greater Hartford area and looking for a great gluten-free pizza, Flatbread Company in Canton should definitely be on your list. Located in the Shoppes at Farmington Valley, it’s nestled into a corner of the plaza with a rustic, comfy interior and an outdoor seating option. You can smell the wood-fired oven the moment you walk in, and with their open kitchen concept, you can see pizzas sliding in out from anywhere in the restaurant. The menu is all about organic, locally sourced ingredients and delicious flatbreads, so if you’re in the mood for anything other than pizza or salad, you may want to go somewhere else…but we don’t recommend it!
They offer a small gluten-free and vegan flatbread(bigger than a personal sized pizza), which you can top any way you want. They have a vegan pizza option on the menu, which contains everything but the cheese. However, if you’re not vegan, they’ve got local goat cheese, which is what we ordered, along with some veggies. Ours came out steaming, crispy, and delicious. They accommodate celiac customers by preparing your pizza carefully and separately, and baking it on foil. They’re not a dedicated gluten-free facility, so there’s no guarantee of cross contamination, but these guys do have a large and loyal celiac following, and we can see why. For dessert, they even make gluten-free whoopee pie sundaes. Convinced yet?
Flatbread Company only has one location in Connecticut, which is totally worth the trip, but they do have others in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, Hawaii and British Columbia. Yum!
