Flatbread: Our Go-To for Gluten-Free Pizza!

Flatbread Company is one of New England’s best spots for organic, celiac-safe pizza. They opened their first restaurant in Amesbury, MA in 1998, and now have 13 locations across the region (listed below).

The menu is intentionally super simple – salad and pizza. That’s it. Gluten-free pizzas are available in large or small size, made on crusts from New Hampshire’s own Peace of Mind Baking Co. The crusts, which are also vegan and free from soy and peanut, arrive individually packaged, and the gluten-free pizzas are prepared separately on dedicated gluten-free pans. They’re baked in earthen wood-fired ovens on a designated side, with a fire separating them from all the others.

When we visited, the server asked if our GF order was an allergy or a preference (check!) and clarified which pizza required the vegan cheese (check!). We were excited when the chef asked if we wanted to come see the oven and prep space, which were all super organized and clean.

Dessert? They have that! All locations offer gluten-free dessert options, most provided by the amazing Gluten-Free Territory, based in New Hampshire.

All Flatbreads have open kitchens, earthen, wood-fired ovens, and dining rooms with an appealingly simple style and vibe. They’ve been committed to sustainability since the beginning; all locations source locally and connect with their communities via fundraisers and other events.

Flatbread is not a dedicated gluten-free facility, but they are one of our favorite spots for pizza because of their commitment to providing safe options and to the community. According to their website, they aim to serve “real food, by real people, in a real environment,” and if you ask us, they’ve succeeded.
