If you’re looking for a gluten-free bakery in Northborough, we have found it. Â We may be late to the party here, but Main Street Pastries and More in Northborough, MA is so much fun.
Diana Batista, a Northborough resident, opened Main Street Pastries and More in late 2019, and, despite COVID, has been wildly successful. Â She is also the head baker, and although the bakery does offer wheat products, half of the kitchen is dedicated gluten free. For extra safety, they prepare all gluten-free items nightly, after the entire place has been cleaned and sanitized. Diana, a single mom of 5, started baking gluten free for her daughter who requires it, and has been at it for 25 years.
The gluten-free display case, strategically separated from the rest, begins the day bursting with blueberry muffins, croissants, cinnamon crumb cake, cupcakes, mini cupcakes, cookies, hot chocolate bombs incredible sandwich bread and more. By noon, much of it’s already gone, and it’s completely empty by closing. Â In addition to daily offerings, Diana also runs specials like Whoopie Pie Wednesdays and Taco Tuesdays (cupcake style!), and accepts special orders, including wedding cakes. Fun Fact: her gluten-free bread will soon be found in Red Heat Taverns across the region!
It’s what Diana isn’t selling, however, that makes us love her even more. Â She developed the Hope Bread program, which donates bread and baked goods to those who need them. She collects monetary donations to support the program on her website, but if someone walks in inquiring, they always leave with an armful of bread and baked goods. And, last Wednesday, which was a difficult day for many, she gave out free cupcakes, just to make people smile.
So here’s what you need to do – follow the Main Street Pastries and More Facebook page for the day’s offerings. Then get there early. Like, really early. It’s totally worth it, and we guarantee you’ll be back. (They’re open seven days a week!)
