Look out Connecticut, there’s a new 100% gluten-free and vegan restaurant, and it’s in Old Saybrook! Shayna B’s by the Sea is owned by Christine Reed, who has been supplying Connecticut stores, eateries and customers with delicious gluten-free breads, treats and more since 2007, before gluten free was cool. She still has a busy wholesale business, but now serves hot meals, prepared foods and baked goods right out of her brand new storefront. But it’s not just any old storefront. The place is furnished with rustic tables and chairs made right here in Connecticut, along with artwork and crafts by local artisans.
It’s the food that’ll keep you coming back, though. She has gluten-free and vegan macaroni and cheese every day, along with soups, sandwiches, entrees, calzones and more. And dessert? Wow. From cupcakes to cookies to custom anything, Christine has you covered. She can even do fully gluten-free/vegan catering. Shayna B’s by the Sea just opened recently, but the place has already become a hot spot for lunch, dinners-to-go, and fun desserts.
Christine’s mission is to be a “socially aware business providing delicious wheat-free/gluten-free vegan food by using locally grown and/or organic products.” Add in her 100% recyclable packaging, and you’ve got delicious, healthy food that’s good for us, and good for the community. We’ll eat to that!
