Are you like us and scheduling summer vacations right now? Well, here’s a travel tip – If your plans include travel anywhere near Bangor, ME, add The Whole Grain Bakeshop to your itinerary.
Just across the river from Bangor is Brewer, Maine, home to The Whole Grain Bakeshop. Owned and operated by local Kelly Thompson, the bakery is  dedicated gluten-free, dairy free, and soy free. Kelly offers plenty of vegan items as well and ensures that all of her ingredients are unrefined, chemical free, and non-GMO. She also uses sweetners like agave syrup, maple syrup, and evaporated cane juice crystals.
Kelly opened the bakery in 2014 and grew fast, expanding into a larger space in 2017. Everything is made from scratch including cupcakes, muffins, scones cookies, custom cakes, biscuits and more. Kelly uses only gluten-free whole grain flours, coconut oil, and absolutely no preservatives. She even makes soups, stews, quinoa salads and other prepared foods to take home.
The menu at The Whole Grain Bakeshop is ever-changing, but you can be certain that local ingredients are used whenever possible including blueberries, cranberries and apples. Call before you go to see what’s on today’s sweet and savory menu, and bring the pooch, because Kelly even makes gluten-free dog treats!
So add The Whole Grain Bakeshop to your Maine to-do list, Â and when you do go, say hello to Kelly for us and buy a treat. Not only are you guaranteed to love whatever you purchase, but you’ll also be helping to support New England’s gluten-free small businesses!
