Smashburger is a fast-casual burger chain founded in Denver, CO in 2007.  Their special seasoning (gluten free!) and culinary “smash” technique sears the burger, creating a unique texture and flavor.  As of 2018, they had 370 locations around the world.

All locations offer Udi’s gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps. And, at your request, they’ll toast the bun on the grill instead of in the shared toaster. From our research, all locations use dedicated fryers for fries. Some also use the dedicated fryer for sweet potato fries, tater tots and brussels sprouts as well. This may vary by location, so always ask before you order.

Pretty much all of the toppings are gluten free, as well as the turkey burgers, grilled chicken, and black bean burgers. They’ve got kids meals and hand-spun shakes, too, with the “safe” ones listed below, ordered without malt powder. There are also turkey burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, and vegetarian black bean burgers (not vegan).

None of the Smashburger locations are dedicated gluten free, but they sure do offer plenty of GF options, and will prepare your order separately. (Always use your own judgement when eating out) Menus and options vary by location, so be sure to check their website – they make it super easy to check for gluten-free items!
