Whistle Stop Bakery
Lolly Turner wasn’t always a baker. 35 years ago, she was working as a fashion designer in NYC, catching the Metro North train from the Branchville railroad station in Ridgefield. Every day, while she waited for the train, she lamented the lack of a hot cup of coffee at the station. Having spent much of her childhood cooking and baking, she eventually decided to leave her career in fashion design to open a bakery. She chose the historic Branchville station as her location, and has been happily serving coffee, treats and more to the RIdgefield community an beyond, ever since. All of her goods are made by hand, using many local ingredients. Her gluten-free offerings include crumble-topped fruit pies and chocolate truffle pies. She laughs that she is still perfecting an actual crust for the top of her fruit pies(which is not an easy feat!), but that we’ll know as soon as she does. Whistle Stop’s pies, both gluten-free and traditional, can be found at many local retail outlets and farmer’s markets, but be warned – they go quick!
