If a road trip is on your list for spring or summer, add Damariscotta, Maine to it, and here’s why. Butter Up Cakes, originally based in Bangor, just opened a brand-new dedicated gluten-free bakery, cafe and hard cider bar in the downtown district.
Candice and Patrick Brady, the owners of Butter Up, recently moved to Damariscotta, and brought their bakery with them. They had been operating as just a gluten-free bakery in Bangor since 2018, inspired by their daughter, who has celiac disease.
The new space offers meals, baked goods, and hard ciders. Candice and Patrick intend to carry only Maine made ciders, in an effort to highlight and support small local businesses.
Candice bakes all of the gluten-free items herself, including bagels, pasta and pierogi. Dairy-free and sugar free items are available as well, and everything from sweet to savory can be ordered for pick up. Check their Facebook page at the link below for daily offerings, and remember that they cater!
With all the restaurant closings lately, it’s exciting to see the openings of new and expanded gluten-free establishments. If you live anywhere within the vicinity of Butter Up, please support them. Or, order for nationwide shipping! 💙
