Phoebe Zhou missed Madeleines. Since going gluten free 10 years ago, she had become frustrated with local bakery offerings, and longed for authentic, French-inspired cookies and cakes. To solve the problem, she decided to open her own bakery, selling the dedicated gluten-free artisan cookies and cakes that she so missed.
Phoebe started by perfecting recipes for Madeleines, Petit Financier, Sablè, and Langues De Chat (see image below for descriptions). Her goal was to remove the gluten, but still maintain the satisfying “sumptuousness” of French baked goods. And, she did it! In June 2021, she opened A La Pêche Bakery in Brookline, MA. There’s no storefront yet, but it’s in the works. Customers can purchase from A La Pêche multiple ways, listed below. Special orders are welcome for events large and small.
- Order directly for pick-up in Brookline or for delivery. (Delivery to MA addresses only)
- Natick Farmer’s Market (check the A La Pêche website for dates)
- Pop-ups at Maruichi in Brookline
Phoebe’s mission is to provide for the gluten-free community products that they won’t find anywhere else, using unique, globally inspired flavors. We hope we speak for everyone when we say that we’re feeling pretty lucky to have artisans like her working so hard to produce GF food and baked goods with excellent taste, texture, and sumptuousness!
